These are some basic requirements for the installation of an LC-OCD-OND system.
if you need further information, please do not hesitate, to contact us.
Space
Floor system, not bench system. Minimal floor space required: 90 cm x 70 cm (W/D).
Climatisation
Laboratory conditions preferred, non-laboratory conditions possible.
Room should be climatized to any temperature between 18 – 27 °C ± 2°C.
Short temperature changes in excess of ± 2°C may induce slight baseline drifts.
Do not expose LC-OCD-OND to direct sunlight.
Laboratory environment
Please try to make the lab where LC-OCD-OND is positioned to a TOC-sensitive area.
This includes the following:
- No organic solvents must be used in the lab. If HPLC-systems with organic solvents are present then special precautions (e.g. hoods or carbon filters for HPLC mobile phase flasks) should be taken.
- No felt pens are allowed in the lab.
- No perfumes, no creams, no hair conditioner for personal working in the lab.
Please note: Volatile organics do not impair the performance of the LC-OCD system, but organics may contaminate samples.
Gases
For operation nitrogen 4.0 or better is required. Supply either on-site (pressure bottle) or central.
Nitrogen consumption beween 180-240 sccm/min. (50L-bottle lasts for about 4 weeks continuous operation).
Nitrogen must be reduced to 0.5-1.0 bar. Pressure reducer must have a Swagelok 1/8″ outlet. Teflon or SS tubing to LC-OCD-OND can be pre-mounted or will be carried out by us.
Note: Conventional Nitrogen Generators with PSA often do not supply the quality required, due to fluctuations in CO2 content!
For such systems additional purification steps may be necessary. In case of uncertainty we recommend to provide a 10L-bottle for testing.
Electricity
Model 9 (2018+):
100 – 240 V, 50/60 Hz are possible. Consumption is about 450 W/hr. One socket only is required for LC-OCD-OND.
Maximal distance of sockets to LC-OCD-OND is 5 m. Customer is kindly asked to provide at least two local plugs in case plugs have to be changed.
Model 8 (2008-2017):
220 – 240 V, 50 Hz are required. Consumption is about 400 W/hr. At least 3 sockets are required, one for LC-OCD-OND, one for Laptop and one for waste water pump.
Maximal distance of sockets to LC-OCD-OND is 5 m. Customer is kindly asked to provide at least two local plugs in case plugs have to be changed.
Waste
Waste produced is mild phosphate buffer pH 5, about 5 g/L. Waste is exported with external pump either to a nearby container, or better with a tubing to a sink.
We kindly ask customer to provide silicon or PP tubing for connection of waste pump to sink.
Chemicals
We kindly ask customers to have the following chemicals on stock prior to installation of system.
Systems will be shipped with smaller amounts of chemicals for about 1-month operation

- Potassium-dihydrogenphosphate
CAS 7778-77-0, e.g. Sigma Aldrich P0662-1KG or Merck 1.04873.1000 - Disodium-hydrogenphosphate-dihydrate

(Small amounts of Humic Substances will be shipped with LC-OCD systems.)
Glassware
Please have the following materials on stock:
- 1 x 5L volumetric flask
- 1 x 5L Schott-flask amber (for mobile phase)
- 1 x 5L Schott flask transparent (for acidification solution)
For cleaning of vials:
We recommend 3 basins about 10 L each for chemical cleaning.
Alternative: A kiln or oven for heating up vials to 550 °C.
Also standard laboratory equipment for dilution and weighting-in is required.
Staff
We recommend to have at least 2 persons being instructed.
We suggest to have one person identified as main responsible person or principal operator.
This person has to make sure that system is running well and also has to organise and train supporting personal in case of absence.
