What can be done?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>93 % of DOC is humic-like matter which is the natural end product of microbial activity. Further reduction cannot be made biologically. Activated carbon is not economical but precipitation of humics (pH or flocculants) may be a feasible strategy.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Examples<\/h3>\n\n<div class=\"panel-group kt-accordion\" id=\"accordionname620\"><div class=\"panel panel-default panel-even\"><div class=\"panel-heading\"><a class=\"accordion-toggle collapsed\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-parent=\"#accordionname620\" href=\"#collapse6200\"><h5><i class=\"icon-minus kt-icon-minus primary-color\"><\/i><i class=\"icon-plus kt-icon-plus\"><\/i>Waste waters from paper industry<\/h5><\/a><\/div><div id=\"collapse6200\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse \"><div class=\"panel-body postclass\">\n<div class=\"row\"> <div class=\"col-md-5\">\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>90 % of TOC (COD) is related to organic acids. After aerobic biologic treatment all acids were oxidised.<\/p>\n<p>Also, other non-humic matter was oxidised and humics remain the only refractory matter after biologic treatment.<\/p>\n<p>97 % TOC was destroyed. The membrane selectively removes particulate biologic matter and dissolved biopolymers to some extent.<\/p>\n<p>This makes the membranes also prone to fouling.
